What is NEM
NEM or Net Energy Metering is a practice where energy produced from the solar PV system installed will be consumed first, and any excess to be exported to TNB. Effective 1st January 2019, the new mechanism of NEM will allow electricity users who had installed solar PV systems at their home or premises to reduce electricity bills and hence create savings. The excess energy calculation will be based on the 'one-on-one' principle in this improved NEM mechanism. This is applicable to all domestic, commercial, industrial and agricultural sectors.
The new NEM scheme is only applicable to Peninsular Malaysia and applicants must be a registered TNB customers. NEM is executed by the Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change (MESTECC), regulated by the Energy Commission (EC), with Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) Malaysia as the implementing agency.
NEM is a Self Consumption Model. Energy injected to the Grid is used to contra the Electricity used at night. Excess energy is fed into the Grid in the Day.
